Jaeon’s Story
Jaeon Chavis was born and raised in West Petersburg, Virginia. He is currently serving time for a crime he was falsely accused of committing in 2012. Because of lack of counsel, he believed the best option he had was to enter a guilty plea, and file the necessary motions afterwards to try to overturn his case.
In 2012, Jaeon attended a party with friends and family, and as everyone was leaving, a shooting occurred. After his conviction, his family learned about false statements being made against Jaeon, coercion by the police, and lack of evidence.
Since his incarceration, Jaeon’s case has been accepted by the Mid-Atlantic Innocence Project. His friends and family are continuing to work together to bring him home while raising awareness on his conviction.
Jaeon is currently incarcerated at Red Onion State Prison in Pound, Virginia. He is also a proud father of three and is still a part of their lives today.
